Welcome to Sheltie Rescue of Greater Lafayette, Indiana. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit, volunteer organization founded to help find loving homes for abused, abandoned, neglected and surrendered Shelties in the Lafayette, Indiana area.

All Shelties in our rescue program will be treated for medical problems, spayed or neutered, given vaccinations, checked for heartworm and put on preventative. They are then fostered in loving homes to determine temperament in order to properly place the dog with the perfect family.

WHAT RESCUE CAN DO

TIGGER - THEN

Tigger came to us as an owner-surrender. She was seven-and-a-half years old and had lived her entire life with one family. They relinquished her after confirming that one of the children was allergic to her. She could not see very well and her coat had been shaved, probably because of the skin lesions she was experiencing. The Sheltie Rescue folks and their veterinarian determined that Tigger has Cushing’s disease, a cancer of the adrenal gland which causes skin problems, severe cataracts, and thyroid imbalances. The life expectancy of a Cushing’s dog is not very great.

TIGGER - NOW

After undergoing a round of chemotherapy in the Spring of 2009 (which she tolerated very well) Tigger was placed on thyroid medication and maintenance chemo drugs. Her coat was allowed to come back in and has been groomed regularly.

Today, Tigger is a well-adjusted, beautiful Sheltie who gets along well with all her siblings, both canine and feline. We know she may not be around for years and years, but we decided that as long as she is with us, she will have everything she needs to be comfortable, safe, as healthy as possible, and loved. What Sheltie could ask for more?
